Health is a Lifestyle not a Diet
So your doctor tells you that you need to lose some weight. What do you do? You go on a diet or at least you sometimes try to make some changes. You may or may not achieve some reasonable results.
Many diets out there brag of quick weight loss. However the unfortunate fact with the majority of these diets are as soon as you reach your goal and stop you eventually gain all the weight back and more. The diet industry gains billions of dollars each year but fails to give the lasting results we are looking for. Why? A lot of these diets are simply not sustainable. They are too restricted whether in daily caloric intake or in the types of foods you can eat.
Another issue is the prepackaged foods that are easier to stick with but when you decide to eat « normal again » things go downhill quickly. It is time to focus on our overall wellness. It is time to have a conversation about permanent life style changes rather than another diet that is so restricted that you can’t stick with it.
Being a trucker brings up a numbers of challenges in choosing a healthier life style. Some of the objections are there is no healthy food available, no time to stop for a healthy meal and lack of exercise.
You do have choices! A lot of people argue that they are just not motivated to lose weight. I talked with someone recently about motivation. They told me that they had a lightbulb moment when they realized they were never going to feel motivated but they had the power to make better choices. Amazingly as they made better choices they began to feel more motivated! Why? They were seeing positive changes in their health.
Stop the crazy diet cycle and start making small lifestyle changes. Prepare food to take with you on the road. When you are stop for a load walk around your truck or further if possible. Eat foods that you like but in smaller portions. Making choices that you can adapt permanently will benefit your health long term.
Do you really want to get healthier? The average life expectancy of a trucker is 59. You do not have to be the average! You have the power to choose!
